MKG Grappling Arts
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, CSW, Kali, Jun Fan Grappling, JKD and Silat all contribute elements to the grappling classes. The two main ground arts taught at the Minnesota Kali Group are Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Erik Paulson’s Combat Submission Wrestling (CSW). Class descriptions can be found below.
Minneapolis Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (B.J.J.)
Brazilian Jiujitsu is known for it’s scientific approach to ground work. You will be taught to use body structure and movement to control and submit an opponent. This is a great art for overall fitness. You will need a Gi which can be purchased in the pro shop.
MKG uses several sources for our BJJ program. John Machado, Erik Paulson, Roy Harris, Tom Oberhue, Luis Palhares, Chris McCune and many others have contributed to this great program. The classes are great for seasoned practitioners and beginners alike. We have added a BJJ 2 class on Thursday nights at 6pm for those with blue belts and above. All other classes are all levels. These 60 – 90 minute sessions are taught by our innovative and talented staff. You will get a great workout and learn all the latest twists and turns in mat work. Movements, submissions and training drills are covered in this class. Classes are based on drills that promote ease of motion and proper technique.
Combat Submission Wrestling (C.S.W.)
Combat Submission Wrestling is the Mixed Martial Art curriculum from World Light-Heavyweight Shootwrestling champion, Erik Paulson. A mix of Shooto (Shoot Wrestling), Muay Thai, Boxing, Savate, Sambo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Freestyle and Catch as Catch Can Wrestling, the curriculum can be taught to any level and is extremely effective and a great workout. You will develop both your standing and ground game in this class and learn to effectively transition from one range to the next.
The Minnesota Kali Group offers a class exclusively on CSW each week and also has incorporated this trademarked curriculum in its Grappling, Phase, Muay Thai and Jun Fan and women’s kickboxing classes.
To the MMA enthusiast or competitor, you definitely will want to put this class on your schedule!
